52-1 Disc Suspension Porcelain Insulator

Ordinary insulators are suitable for general areas. Properly increasing the number of insulators can also improve the pollution flashover performance. Disc suspension porcelain insulator is a special insulation control, which can play an important role in overhead transmission lines.

    product description

    ANSI Class: 52-1
Nominal Diameter: Typically 10 inches (254 mm).
Spacing (Dry Arcing Distance): Typically 5.75 inches (146 mm). This is the shortest air distance between the cap and pin.
Mechanical Strength (M&E Rating - Combined Mechanical & Electrical): This is a crucial parameter. The 52-1 class typically corresponds to a 15,000 lbs (67 kN) M&E strength rating. This means the insulator is designed to withstand this tensile load without mechanical failure, and it also relates to its ability to withstand electrical stress simultaneously.
Leakage Distance: Typically around 11 to 12 inches (approx. 280-305 mm). This is the distance along the surface of the porcelain between the cap and pin, important for performance in contaminated environments.
    Electrical Ratings (Typical Values):
Low-Frequency Dry Flashover Voltage: 80 kV
Low-Frequency Wet Flashover Voltage: 50 kV
Critical Impulse Flashover Voltage (Positive): 125 kV
Critical Impulse Flashover Voltage (Negative): 130 kV
(Note: Exact values can vary slightly between manufacturers but must meet the minimums specified by the ANSI C29.2 standard for the 52-1 class).

    Application

Used in suspension strings on medium and high-voltage AC and DC transmission and distribution lines.
Multiple units are connected in series (ball-and-socket or clevis-tongue couplings) to form an insulator string. The number of discs in a string is determined by the system voltage, required insulation level (BIL - Basic Insulation Level), environmental pollution levels, and altitude.
They insulate the energized conductor from the grounded tower structure while mechanically supporting the conductor's weight and tension.
The 52-1 is a standardized, widely used 10-inch diameter porcelain suspension disc insulator with a 15,000 lb M&E rating, forming the building blocks for insulator strings on overhead power lines.
